Our Mentoring Center provides an after-school academic enrichment program specifically focused on French learning to all children–from kindergarteners to sixth-graders. It is our mission to provide multiple French language learning and improvement opportunities.
Our Curriculum
Our French language learning Center provides a curriculum that complies with the applicable educational standards and regulations followed by the current Quebec school curriculum. This curriculum has been exclusively designed, meeting all the requirements included in the French language curriculum implemented in schools across Quebec. Thus, during the school year, each curriculum level includes the necessary content to help students learn.
We also see that our students are not simultaneously given a lot of work to do, thus preventing them from having feelings of frustration, fatigue, or boredom. During the students’ school tests period, our instructors are there to guide them through their revisions and assist them in achieving goals set by their schools.
Information Sessions and Placement Test
During the information session and considering any potential enrollments, students are asked to take a placement test aimed at learning about their strengths and weaknesses. Then, according to the first test results, a customized plan based on our curriculum and tailored to the student’s needs will be outlined.
This test is also aimed at helping us support students in catching up on their school level, so we can then help them solve any difficulties encountered since the beginning of their schooling.
Lesson Development
In our Center, students can benefit from all our services. Based on their needs, students may take 30 to 60-minute lessons, once or twice a week.
Each student will have their own binder with a set of exercises and activities. Students will get their binders at the beginning of each lesson, so they can work on their specially tailored assignments. Once students have completed their exercises, they ask our instructors to correct their work immediately. This will help them go through their mistakes and learn how to avoid making such mistakes again.
Homework
Students go back home with specially tailored homework to be done by their next lesson. They also have a study plan for the week, which helps them better organize themselves. This customized plan is adapted to your child’s schedules and schoolwork.
We want our students to develop their independence and creativity. Parents are not expected to help their children do their homework. Homework exercises include examples and very clear instructions, and any related knowledge has already been acquired in class. Homework is only intended to make students get some more practice before their next lesson.
Encouraging Autonomy
With a teaching approach, our curriculum will help your child develop their autonomy while learning new study strategies. Also, our curriculum is aimed at addressing the various learning concerns faced by students as effectively as possible.
Our Team
Our team is composed of devoted, careful and dynamic professionals willing to help your child gain new knowledge and improve their French language skills. Reading, writing, comprehension, grammar or syntaxis skills, they know how to adapt the curriculum content to meet each child’s needs.
In class, our instructors also support students who need extra help in doing their schoolwork. Also, they are able to significantly support students in preparing for school tests, writing a text, writing an essay, or even doing a presentation.
Parents have a very important role to play–encourage their children at all times. We believe that self-confidence is the key to student success. Encouragement boosts self-confidence, and, as such, they are of paramount importance.
Parents are encouraged to tell us about their observations on their children’s school progress and let us know whether their children need any extra support for any upcoming exam. Also, parents are always welcomed to come to us to discuss their children’s progress. They can always schedule an individual appointment with any of our Center staff members.
